Which alternative does what?
Start with the reason you want to leave. Compare everyday spending with RedotPay, wallet permissions with MetaMask, or borrowing with ether.fi. None is automatically cheaper or available everywhere.
| You want | Option | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Compare another crypto spending account | RedotPay | 1% crypto conversion plus 1.2% for non-default-currency purchases; eligibility restrictions |
| Spend from a self-custodial wallet | MetaMask Card | New US sign-ups paused; regional eligibility, token/network support and allowances |
| Choose between direct spending and collateral borrowing | ether.fi Cash | Lending settings, mode, fees and liquidation exposure |
| Receive client bank transfers | A receiving account that permits your type of work income | Receiving details alone do not establish permission for client or business payments |
Why we still use KAST most
The MoneyQuest Team has used KAST, RedotPay and Plasma. KAST remains our main card; virtual-card pricing and the advertised cashback plans influenced that choice. We usually send USDT or USDC from Binance or a hot wallet over a supported low-cost network, then pay online or through Apple Pay.
Details and conditions
- That is a personal preference, not a universal ranking or a cashback test. We have not used MetaMask Card or ether.fi Cash; their coverage here is based on official documentation.
RedotPay: familiar spending, different fees
RedotPay’s published schedule charges 1% to convert crypto for spending, plus 1.2% for purchases outside the card’s default currency. For a USD card, a normal $100 USD purchase therefore has a $1 conversion fee before any special merchant charge.
| Cost | KAST Standard | RedotPay |
|---|---|---|
| Annual account / membership fee | $0 | $0 account maintenance |
| Virtual card | Two included; $2 issuance applies in some regions | $10 application fee |
| Ordinary USD purchase | 0% card-spend fee | USD card: 1% crypto conversion |
| Other purchase currencies | 0.5%–1.75% FX; depends on program and transaction | 1% crypto conversion + 1.2% outside default currency |
Details and conditions
- That does not beat KAST’s listed 0% USD card-spend fee on cost alone. KAST’s non-USD FX fee is 0.5%–1.75%, with conditions. Compare the currencies you actually spend in before switching.
- These are ordinary purchase fees, before rewards. ATM use, small payments, declines and specified merchants can have separate charges.
MetaMask or ether.fi: change how you hold and spend
MetaMask uses wallet spending permissions; ether.fi offers Direct Pay and collateral-backed Borrow mode. New MetaMask US sign-ups are paused. ether.fi also has country and verification requirements.
Details and conditions
- MetaMask Free has no annual subscription; Metal costs $199 a year. Free lists a 1% cross-border fee for merchants outside your country. Token, ATM and network charges are separate.
- ether.fi Direct Pay spends an eligible balance. Borrow mode creates debt with interest and liquidation risk. Core normally includes one virtual card, with a $10 fee in specified regions; its added FX margin outside USD/EUR is 0.5%.
Do you need receiving details more than another card?
If your client wants to pay by bank transfer, another spending card may not solve the problem. Confirm that the receiving account accepts payments from that client’s account type, in their currency, before sending account details.
Details and conditions
- For clients already paying in USDT or USDC, agree the token and blockchain and use a receiving address you control. Our payment guide walks through the invoice and deposit checks. How to receive client payments in USDT or USDC
How do you switch without losing track of payments?
Open and verify the replacement before moving your routine. Test a small deposit and purchase, then update subscriptions. Keep access to old statements and track pending refunds.
