What mattered in our everyday use

MoneyQuest Team: we mainly use KAST, after also using RedotPay and Plasma. The virtual-card price and advertised cashback were important in that choice. In everyday spending, FX was the cost we noticed most. This is our experience, not a claim that every reader will get the same result.

On-chain fees depend on the blockchain

An on-chain deposit is a crypto transfer to your card account. The network fee depends on the blockchain chosen and network conditions; use a network supported by the receiving account.

Details and conditions
  • If you send from an exchange, it may charge its own withdrawal fee. Use the fee shown by that exchange—it may differ from the underlying network fee. Neither is a card purchase fee.

Small payments: the extra charges

Small payments and certain merchants can trigger extra charges. ATM operator fees may also apply when withdrawing cash.

KAST: non-USD purchase below $25$0.10, plus applicable FX
RedotPay: specified merchant1.5%, minimum $0.50; first 3 eligible purchases per card/calendar month waived

Declined paymentKAST: $0.50 for insufficient balance. RedotPay: $0.50 after the first 3 declines per card/month.
Details and conditions
  • KAST: non-USD purchases below $25 add $0.10, alongside the applicable FX fee. USD purchases do not have that small-payment charge. KAST fee calculator.
  • RedotPay: certain listed merchants add 1.5%, minimum $0.50. The first three eligible purchases per card each calendar month are waived. RedotPay fees.
  • After those waivers, an $8 purchase at a listed merchant adds $0.50: 6.25% of that purchase. This is a specific surcharge, not every payment.
  • For non-USD ATM withdrawals, KAST adds its applicable FX fee. The RedotPay table lists the ATM fee separately; it does not establish a complete crypto-funded ATM total here.

$1,000 purchase: what does each card charge?

For one ordinary purchase on an existing card, before rewards. Non-USD figures use a $1,000 USD-equivalent purchase.

PurchaseKASTRedotPay
$1,000 in USD$0$10 conversion
$1,000 equivalent in another currency$5–$17.50 FX$10 conversion + $12 FX = $22
Details and conditions
  • These are purchase fees only. Card issuance and on-chain deposits are separate transactions; special merchant charges are excluded. The RedotPay example uses a USD-default card.

At checkout: local or home currency?

Choosing your home currency lets the merchant or ATM set the conversion offer. The displayed rate and markup may cost more than your card’s FX fee.

Details and conditions
  • A shop or ATM may offer to charge your home currency. That is dynamic currency conversion, or DCC. Visa says the offer should show both currency amounts, the exchange rate and any markup. Compare the offer with your card’s conversion costs; do not assume a familiar currency is the cheaper choice.

KAST or RedotPay for your spending?

The comparison calculator shows card fees and rewards for the same spending amount. Funding and other charges excluded from the calculator are listed alongside it.
